3,651. Matanos - The Gifts for Kohanim

Hilchos Bikkurim 9:1

There is a Torah obligation for one who slaughters a kosher domesticated animal to give a kohein the right foreleg, the jaw and the abomasum (one of the stomachs). This is explicit in Deuteronomy 18:3. These are called “matanos” (gifts) everywhere. This mitzvah applies at all times, both in and out of Israel, regardless of whether the Temple is standing or not, but to secular animals and not consecrated animals.

Hilchos Bikkurim 9:2

One must take these gifts from consecrated animals that were permanently blemished before consecration and were subsequently redeemed. If they were temporarily blemished before consecration, or consecrated while unblemished and they subsequently became blemished, and they were redeemed, one need not take these gifts from them.
