3,738. Anointing with Shemittah Produce

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 5:5

Shemittah produce that was put aside for people may not be fed to domesticated animals, wild animals or birds. If an animal went under a fig tree on its own and started eating the fruit, one need not retrieve it. This is as per Leviticus 25:7: “(it shall be) for your domesticated animals and for wild animals.”

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 5:6

Anointing with shemittah produce is as follows: One may anoint himself with things that are commonly used for this purpose. For example, one may not anoint himself with wine or vinegar, but he may do so with oil. One may not add aromatic grasses to the oil (which would take it outside of the category of “food”) and one may not anoint with it in the bathhouse (since shemittah produce has sanctity). One may, however, anoint himself outside the bathhouse and then go in.
